In April 2018 a group of 18 people from congregations throughout Scotland visited our partner organisation, the United Mission to Nepal (UMN). The 10 day visit allowed the group to see life in communities affected by the 2015 earthquake and how they are responding and rebuilding their lives and their communities.

This short series of five blogs shares some of these moments and marks the third anniversary of the earthquake.

Today’s blog is in the form of a poem written by one of the travellers Rev Anne Attenburrow, from Moray Presbytery.

Excited travellers

Gathering in Edinburgh

Off to new pastures.

Brick kilns everywhere.

Rebuilding a nation

Stronger than before.

Grace in poverty

Respect and dignity

Pulling together in community.

Women full of faith

Hope in microfinance

Sharing in a church.

Sharing praise and dance

Joining in together

For the love of God.

Beauty and friendship

Recreation after carnage

Hope, love and joy!

Hope in construction.

Safe schools for next generation,

Prepared for next destruction.

Wilderness is tamed

In terraces of rice and corn.

Muddy rivers after rain.

Life requires water.

Safe water to drink, water for crops,

Hydropower.

Living water, Abundant life,

Jesus, our Living Water,

Fills us all with His Life. Hallelujah!
